Re: Hands Up...Who Dries Stuff On Their Radiators?

Dyke is a Scots word for a drystone wall, and perhaps centuries ago that's where washing was put to dry outdoors in summer.

A horse is a four legged big animal.

A Maiden is an old fashioned term for a young Woman.

Why these words?,,,don't ask Me

Also a Maiden is an instrument resembling the guillotine, formerly used in Scotland for beheading criminals.

I’m still in shock at a clothes horse being called, a winterdyke!

Yes it must be regional I suppose. I wish the powers that be would leave words alone, and quit changing the meaning.

"Powers that be"??

The meanings of words are changed by common usage not some secret word police operating covertly.

Then there's the iron maiden, one of those medieval spiky torture thingies and a rock group of course

Re: Hands Up...Who Dries Stuff On Their Radiators?

We don't have radiators in our building, and haven't seen one for several years in anyone's home.
However, I do hang my delicates on a special hanger and loop it over the shower curtain bar in my bathroom to dry.

Does that count?
