Old black and white movies.

Got a few hours to spare, and perhaps the odd memory or two?

Re: Old black and white movies.

I grew up with the old b/w classics, especially on a Sunday afternoon after the roast lunch!

Some of them were great! And some I've seen several times since.

I've been saying for a long time that it's a shame the Sunday afternoon films were disbanded, especially in winter.

Re: Old black and white movies.

I have a few B/W movies on my server The top ones are Casablanca, High Noon, Billy Liar, Help and The Last Picture Show.

There are also a number of Ealing comedies including:

The Ladykillers
The Man in the White Suit
Kind Hearts and Coronets
Passport to Pimlico
The Lavender Hill Mob
Hue and Cry
The Magnet
The Titfield Thunderbolt

Not all of them are worth remembering but some are brilliant.

I just remembered - A Night to Remember and Reach for the Sky

There are probably others but those are all that come to mind at the moment.

I don't mind B & W films at all but my kids really don't like watching them.

I always enjoy the old Sherlock Homes in B/W, when they show them. it was Basil Rathbone who was my favourite then.

I'm watching one at the moment, recorded from Talking Pictures yesterday. An Ealing Studios film directed by Basil Dearden... "The Halfway House", 1944.

It's not as good as some, but still watchable, with some of the usual suspects.... Mervyn Johns, Glynis Johns, and a very, very young Sally Ann Howes.

Hobson's Choice, another British classic. Never get tired of watching it.

That was on recently, and I was furious because my aerial played up when it was on, and I couldn't get any reception from the channel it was on.

Super film.

Also "The History of Mr. Polly" - the one with John Mills in it.

I have a DVD of Alfred Hitchcocks's The 39 Steps which was released in 1938. Good movie though I haven't watched it ages.

Stars Rober Donat

Someone mentioned Hobsons Choice - I do have that on my server. Anything with Charles Laughton (sp?) is great
