I expected better from you Solly?
Trumpy was disappointed that EU could not or would not pay
their nato bills!
only UK was up to date!
So now EU has what it wanted all along, an excuse for a eu army!
Only one drawback?
They have to pay for it themselves, especially if uk manages to
escape!

Assuming that the manpower for their EU Army is drawn from EU states, from what I have heard it won't be a very effective army!

More importantly, should Russia decide to expand westward - for their own protection of course - what on earth could the EU Army do about it, especially if it took place on a weekend?

Yes JBR, they would have to work on it for a bit?
But l was thinking from a different angle to you, what if EU has
designs on expanding eastwards, as they did before?
They have allready made overtures to Ukraine, which has caused
tension with Russia! What about that scenario?

Yes, to be honest I think that is much more likely.

I have said before that Russia, or the USSR, was interested only in self-preservation (after coming under serious threat from both Hitler and Napoleon), and put in place a collection of buffer states immediately following WW2.

I doubt very much that Russia would want to expand westwards, except for self-preservation as mentioned before, whereas the EU's intention is clearly to expand as far as they can possibly do. Turkey is a prime example.

Obviously, they can't do it by force, so they do it by politics and finance.

A that's why boris want to enter a tunnel in his negotiations! A bit like an anxious rabbit, or should I compare boris with a hibernating bear?

My thoughts exactly JBR, If you include trickery and bribery etc
under the polito- finance umbrella?

That makes those eastern countries much smarter than the UK, don't you think. They are being paid to be members of the EU, whereas the UK has been paying for 44 years for that privilege.
