Boris Johnson looks north for fresh faces in new year reshuffle

https://www.ft.com/content/05f27003-...d-8d7aa722a976

Boris Johnson is lining up a group of younger and northern Conservative MPs to join his Cabinet next year in a reshuffle that will complete the reset of his government and keep potentially rebellious backbenchers on side.

Allies of the UK prime minister say he wants to shake up his top team following the abrupt departure this month of Dominic Cummings and Lee Cain, his two most senior aides, and the appointment of Dan Rosenfield as his new Number 10 chief of staff.

His focus will be on changing senior figures at the top of government as well as promoting loyal talent in the junior ministerial ranks.
Of course, some of them will be Carrie's "soiree" guests but that will have had no bearing on the PM's choice .....

Rising stars who have proved their abilities in the House of Commons and in the media are in line for more senior roles, including Treasury minister Kemi Badenoch, Foreign Office minister James Cleverly and health minister Edward Argar.

Mr Johnson is also eyeing up a new parliamentary private secretary to improve his relations with the party. Allies said two MPs from the 2019 intake could be in the running for the role: Claire Coutinho, an aide to chancellor Rishi Sunak*, and Laura Trott, who works with transport secretary Grant Shapps.
As an aside, Rishi is, by marriage, currently the richest MP - his wife, Akshata Murthy, has known personal wealth of £430m (more than H.M. the Queen) and is the daughter of Indian billionaire N. R. Narayana Murthy.

Omah, why do you start a thread in a serious section of the forum and your own input is completely off topic?

No, it isn't - it's all about the reshuffle and the people involved (and their connections).

It seemed that no-one is interested (yet) but:

One MP tipped to be promoted is leader of the Northern Research Group and MP for Rossendale and Darwen, Jake Berry.

Mr Berry has called for further funding for the north during the pandemic and controversially claimed Southerners prioritise ballet over football, unlike the North.

Of a more recent vintage of MPs, Laura Trott and Claire Coutinho, both from the 2019 election, may win places in Government.

Both Foreign Office Minister, James Cleverly and health minister Edward Argar have also been highlighted as potential long-term allies of the Prime Minister.

Treasury minister and rising star of the party, Kemi Badenoch is thought to be in the running to be given a promotion.

It is also thought former Cabinet ministers, Sajid Javid and Anne-Marie Trevelyan, who’s Department for International Trade was abolished, could also return.

Despite the need to reset his tenure, it is thought the reshuffle will not happen until the well into the new year.

One suggestion could be May’s local election whereby Mr Johnson may be forced to step in if the party performs badly.

Well, that sums up the attraction of the current Tory government to most people .....

BJ's popularity down to 34% .....

Tory party trailing behind the unappealing Labour party at 37%-40% .....

None of which mean anything at all.
Not only because there is still almost four years before the next opportunity to change things if that's what people want by then.

Re: Boris Johnson looks north for fresh faces in new year reshuffle

Boris Johnson plans to promote a raft of female ministers in a reshuffle aimed at addressing his ‘woman problem’.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...reshuffle.html

International Trade Secretary Liz Truss is set to be handed a more senior Cabinet post after impressing the Prime Minister.

Junior ministers Kemi Badenoch, Lucy Frazer, Gillian Keegan and Victoria Atkins are also seen by No 10 as rising stars.

Mr Johnson’s fiancee Carrie Symonds and press secretary Allegra Stratton are understood to be among those encouraging him to refresh his top team.

Downing Street has pencilled in June for the Cabinet shake-up, following the local elections that are due to take place in May.

The Prime Minister is believed to want to get a team in place that will take the Tories into the next general election.

No 10 aides have discussed the possibility of moving Priti Patel from the Home Office to become party chairman, although her supporters have warned she would resist such a move.

Downing Street has put up only one female Cabinet minister to answer questions on either the BBC’s Andrew Marr Show or Sky’s Sophy Ridge on Sunday since the start of the first lockdown on March 23.

Male Cabinet ministers have appeared on the programmes 65 times during that time, while Home Secretary Miss Patel made just two appearances, both on June 28 last year. Miss Truss and Work and Pensions Secretary Therese Coffey were notably absent despite both holding high-ranking roles.
Well, it ain't the new year and they ain't necessarily northern faces but change is a-comin' .....

Re: Boris Johnson looks north for fresh faces in new year reshuffle

The problem for Boris is that he was a one trick pony, now that Brexit is done and dusted perhaps he can find a cabinet competent to deal with the pressing issues that face Britain.

His Covid response has been a complete shambles until the roll out of the vaccines. Britain deserved better than him (and the conga line of useless PMs that went before).
