To me it seems rather simple. In january the UK left the EU. The UK loses the benefits of trade agreements the EU members had with many countries.
During the time the UK was in the EU the cooperation in many fields got very intens. Like on defence, crime, data, banking, science, education.
On leaving the EU this cooperation needs to continue, according to people in the respective fields. But boris and brexiteers seem to want to cut all ties. Leading to going everything alone, and on the way buying satellites for a gps system from a firm that is bankrupt, and on top of it, the wrong satellites.
The problem on these themes is that the UK wants to keep all the benefits of cooperation. These benefits however, are reserved for members. So here brexit means brexit.
As for trade deal, the UK knocks on the door of the EU, requesting a deal. The EU told you what kind of deal is on offer, and on what conditions. If you want other conditions, you have to offer something in return. As per usual, so far the british side has only told what they don't wanna give.
