One of the best cookery books I have belonged to my second husband's mother. Without digging it out of the understairs cupboard, it's really really old and talks about not being afraid of using 'this new fangled invention: the gas oven'

I'm not a brilliant cook but even I have failed (well, mostly failed) to make a mess of many things in that book and they all tasted fabulous.

I like the Good Housekeeping recipe book best too. I change a lot of recipes and add my own touch anyway.
