Only hard line nationalists especially in the north want a united Ireland, they can't afford it!

The EU has treated the Republic appallingly - look at what happened to them after 2010 and how their referendums were overturned.

Varadkar made a big mistake backing the wrong horse and now they will pay for it.

I have to agree with you. He inserted an equivalent alternative arrangement for the backstop in his deal, like the EU demanded. The GFA had to be protected. From the EU viewpoint boris' arrangement is even better than the backstop.
