Staff party blamed for Covid outbreak at Bacup primary school

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-englan...shire-54161544
Eight members of staff at Bacup Holy Trinity Stacksteads CE Primary School have contracted Covid-19 since a party on 5 September, head teacher John Aspin said. Another three, who did not attend, have since been infected and the whole school has now had to close.

In a letter to parents published on the school website, Mr Aspin said staff at the Lancashire school took an "ill-advised risk" when they attended a party at the home of a former colleague.

The staff, who did not break any government restrictions, "failed to appreciate the bigger picture" of the spread of the virus, Mr Aspin said. "I know each will be genuinely regretting the decision they took to attend what last year would have been an enjoyable event, but in the current situation was an ill-advised action to take, given their responsibilities to the children of the school and to their colleagues."
So sad for the children .....

So disruptive, again, for the parents .....

Coronavirus: Restrictions in north-east England

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-e...-tyne-54167995

Summary:
  • Northumberland, Newcastle, Sunderland, North and South Tyneside, Gateshead and County Durham council areas affected
  • Households banned from mixing indoors and outdoors and pubs must close between 22:00 and 05:00
  • Guidance says only essential visits to care homes and hospitals allowed, and people must not go on holiday with other households
  • Comes after a spike in coronavirus with 1,106 new cases in a seven-day period

More than 100 people waiting for Covid-19 test at an empty Sunderland car park, where they say they have been booked in for coronavirus testing. Drivers are arriving with print outs of their appointments but no Covid-19 testing staff or equipment are there..
Shambolic .....

We estimate you have a 5% chance
of catching COVID-19.
The average is 11.36%
You are in the lowest risk band for catching COVID-19
5% is the equivalent of 1 in 20 people
or betting odds of 19/1.

That doesn't seem too bad.

Coronavirus: Lancashire expected to be placed under tighter lockdown measures

https://news.sky.com/story/coronavir...sures-12074606

They clampdown will cover cites and towns including Preston, Lancaster, Wyre, Fylde, Chorley, Blackburn, Burnley and Rossendale.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock has told senior MPs from the county that he will announce the clampdown in the morning and the rules will come into force on Saturday.
It'll be the whole country soon:

Coronavirus: Tighter national rules considered by government

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-54199642

At a meeting on Wednesday night, the government's chief scientific adviser and medical officer presented predictions of another serious outbreak of the disease.

They forecast that there would be a significant number of deaths by the end of October if there were no further interventions.

The virus is now understood to be doubling every seven to eight days, with more than 3,300 new cases reported on Thursday.

Under the so called "circuit break", restrictions could be reintroduced in some public spaces nationwide for a period of a few weeks, but schools and workplaces would be kept open.
