They had three months over the summer when they were opening everything up to come up with winter plans. Instead they were shooting off on hols.

what should have been done over the summer. It's a bit late now! Talk about blind optimism.

It was an attempt to bring the economy back on line. Plans for the future were being made as is very obvious but with the bloomin' stupidity of so many of the members of the public it ended up becoming even more chaotic than the virus was making things as it was.

Look, it's impossible to solve an equation with just three unknowns, how on earth can an equation with 65,000,000 unknowns be solved other than react to events? The government has done spectacularly well in predicting some limits to create a very floppy paradigm to work within.

But what do YOU think should have been done other than what has been done to better position this country other than what has been done?

It's certainly not solved by giving local authorities 5 mins notice of major changes! Absolutely no excuse for such poor communication and management.

I could write a whole paper on this. They need to get their inter departmental communication into gear and not spring surprises on agencies that need proper notice to implement processes. University students - why are they even there? holiday makers stranded with no notice, getting rid of the 2m rule (how stupid was that?!), Non policing of enclosed spaces, taking months to say masks were a good idea and then not policing compliance. All this could have been managed better by upfront communication and no panicking at the last minute. Why on earth aren't they fining shops for not enforcing masks and hygiene? If they don't have the police then that's down to Tory cuts. But they certainly seem to have plenty of plods at demos. If the disease is spreading it's down to confusing communications and non enforcement of fines/rules etc.

Annie, you just don't get it. The chaos isn't as a result of apparent chaotic behaviour of the government, it's as a result of the chaotic behaviour of this awful disease and the irrational behaviour of the population plus the probably deliberate lack of effort by the awful Socialist civil service.

Oh yes, cuts in the police.

Not cuts my dear, reassignment of funds to our equivalent of Homeland security to keep the Fifth Columnists now in the UK under some form of control and responding to the weapons factories springing up - that thanks to Blair and his open border policies and more we can now only respond to untill we get the transition period ended.

But we're at war with an enemy that is several steps ahead of us. We HAVE to be reactive.

I'm going to ask a question once again - what do you think Thatcher would have done?

Probably as near as dammit to what this government is doing. Maybe she would have terminated the Transition nonsense and walked away with no EU deal in place so to some extent clearing the decks.

I would hope she would not have permitted the furlough nonsense though and maybe have instituted a discrete shoot on sight contract of "Hairy Mary" Sturgeon.
