Re: the moon tonight

Why prop up against a wall when I have one of the most sturdy tripods you can get, a Manfrotto 055XPROB with a manfrotto 322RC2 head ?

I could have totally cleared the sky with the editing suite, but at 2.30 am ???
as for pointing at the north star I have a south facing back garden and my house is in the way.

Takahashi

can you Please put up your photos of the moon to give me a better clearer idea of what you mean

Re: the moon tonight

I'm not into astro-photography so I cannot post any pictures. However, it was obvious to me your photo wasn't quite right as I am a member of an amateur astronomical forum which does have an AP section and I have seen thousands of lunar photos over the years. Links not allowed here.

In my initial response I suggested the backround stars in your photo were fake. They are. You replied by saying it was "backround noise"!! Nothing wrong with fake pictures but maybe a good idea to be up front about it in future?

Glad you have a tripod - I suggested propping a camera up against a wall in case you didn't have one and to demonstrate for others just how easy it is to capture star trails without the need for additional equipment.

I hear the Manfrotto's are good sturdy tripods. My largest tripod carries about 75 kgs of gear. Wonder how the Manfrotto would cope under that?

Re: the moon tonight

Excuse me, Please do not accuse me of making fake pictures.
this is the original in Jpeg

I edited the same photo In RAW

when cropped to the extent I did it brings up all photo imperfections, something obviously you are not aware of.

To bring out a close image for sharpness- shadows - contrast and better details with such a shot using only a 400mm lens severe skilled editing is the the only way.

Re: the moon tonight

Erm ... I like the photo and prefer it with 'noise'.

Stick to your own initial instincts realspeed .

Re: the moon tonight

I agree with Morticia, realspeed. Your original photo looks more natural than the edited version - which looks false.
