Not too long. I took the photo of the Nelson statue on a day out to Portsmouth dockyard and made it the subject of an OOB picture a year or two ago, so the job was half done already.
The frame and the rest of the editing is done in a vector drawing program and its 3D function used to give the frame perspective. A fade is given to the bottom of the subject to make it blend in. The background fill for the frame (the sea) is a stock photo.
In the past, I have spent quite a time cutting out subjects from a background and as said, this one was halfway done using the usual editing methods. For this picture though, I tried using an online service. I don't know how it does the job so quickly or successfully but it plain takes away the skill needed for cutting out a subject from the background.
After being cut out, the upright character of Nelson was angled around a bit.
I don't know if the online cut-out service would be as successful with all pictures but since the job was already half done by me, it made a good job of this one.
Good fun to produce but it is mostly only editing rather than the painstaking vector drawings I sometimes like to do.
