It's a shame really that Colombia resorted to such dirty play because when they played properly, they were good.
Still, at least we have now won a penalty shoot out which will give our team a lot of confidence. I'm looking forward to the next game against Sweden and I have warned my cats that I might shout again but there's no need to go running off.
That's a good appraisal of the match Longdogs....
However; I don't think England won, I think it was Columbia that lost. Had they not played so dirty and given away the penalty in the first half, they would have won, being that the only proper goal was scored by them. The England team put in some great effort, and as is always the case, worked hard right to the end. But they resemble a 'Damp Firework' after reading the side of the container, you have some great expectations, and are poised for the explosion that is about to occur; Then out goes the fuse......
The Columbians seemed to be playing with fifteen men! Some great passing and making more chances than England, in fact one actually paid off....England on the other hand, had a great build up and then (just like the damp firework) fizzled out and either lost the ball due to a good Columbian defence, or sent it hurtling towards Moscow.....
I always feel sorry for the Goalkeepers; who incidentally were by far the best players on the field. I always consider the penalty shootout as been more down to luck than great skill, and as such, the England team will have to pull up their socks (as high as the space station) if they want to progress any further in the competition.
I love England, and I have great respect for our team and indeed Gareth Southgate, and if the world cup can be won on determination, grit and that old 'Buldog' spirit we will win it easily, because we have it in spades, but unfortunately it can't and I'm so apprehensive about their next game......
Signed.....
