Re: Essential Device?

The connectors for On Board Diagnostics have been standardised since 2001 or petrol engines and 2004 for diesel engines so all cars since then should use an OBD-2 connector.

Re: Essential Device?

That should read for petrol engines. I have a dodgy f key, I either get none or ff or occasionally f.

Re: Essential Device?

I don't think there are any devices that can change engine management settings because that needs a chip to be physically changed or bypassed but there are some settings that once triggered remain until reset however if the fault remains then they will retrigger.

The major advantage as I understand it is that for example it will tell which of the many things that can trigger an "Engine Management" light actually did or it can tell you exactly what is preventing the car from starting or what exactly is putting the engine in limp mode.

There are no warranty implications.

While I was searching for a review about this particular device I came across this cheery chap. Well worth watching.
