Bank Account Security...A Catch 22.

I have a LPA for my Mum so today I contact my Mum's bank as we have been locked out of Internet banking.

I explain that it wouldn't let me in and the form to release the lock didn't recognise her details.

"You are locked out because you entered incorrect details"

"No I didn't"

"You must have, sir"

"Ok, if you say so" "But how come it's not recognising her details when I try to reactivate it"?

"you must have entered the wrong details"

"No I flippin' haven't"

"We can send you a reactivation code"

"Yes please, can you send it to 074** ******"

"Sorry sir, no. We have to send it to a registered mobile on the account"

"She doesn't have that phone anymore as she can't move her arms to use it"

"Oh dear, I am sorry." "If you go into online banking you can change the number and then we can send you the reactivation code"

"but I cannot change the phone number without the re-activation code"

Jeeez..........I give up.

Duh!

Always search online for the branch AND THEN phone them to assertain that

(1) they've not closed down
(2) they are open
(3) they have over the counter service
(4) what ID you need to show them
(5) be prepared for 'blonde' mentality

Which bank is that, Terry?

I'm sure some are better than others. By the sound of it, when you eventually sort out the problem you might be well advised to try a different bank.

RBS.

I'm with them as well as Lloyd's, Santander and you're right,

some are better but they're much the same.

Mrs Gman has POA on her Dad. Try interacting with Nationwide and HSBC - friggin' nightmare mate, so I know what you mean.

I'm with First Direct and I've never had a problem.

They've now brought in voice recognition, so when you telephone them (after it has first been set up, of course) they just ask a simple confirmatory question and that's it.

They are very helpful people.

And I think they are offering £100 to new members!
