How multicultural is where you live?

Hi

The County Town where I now live is predominately white and Christian, a far cry from where I worked some 15 miles away.

The postcode I live in is 100% White, most working in the engineering factories on the two big Industrial Estates nearby.

The biggest ethnic minority are the Polish, two Polish Shops and a Catholic Church which has a Polish Mass within walking distance.

They work in the huge Meat Plant and others travel to nearby food processing plants.

Strangely enough you do not see Polish Cleaners, shop assistants, waiting staff etc, they prefer the well paid jobs which the British do not want due to the type of employment and long shift patterns.

What is it like near you?

Re: How multicultural is where you live?

Brighton is multi-cultured, multi-coloured. We have a large Chinese community, Sudanese refugees from when there was a war between the muslim north and christian south. There is also a fairly large Polish community with some of their specialist shops springing up all over the town. There are Indian and Sikh communities, a lot of the hospital nurses originate from either Indonesia or parts of eastern Europe, there are Afghans, and Iraqis - refugees from Bush & Bliar's wars. There are French, German and Italian communities too.

In the village I live in its mainly a white Christian population but Bradford is not far away and that certainly is multicultural as is Leeds...nearest shopping centre is Harrogate I would say that's mainly white Christian too.

I am glad to say our semi-rural Welsh village appears to be fairly multicultural, which is good. I would hate to live in a place, which was all white little englanders.

I am glad to say that our town is mainly white little Englanders and far from multi-cultural, which is good. I would hate to live in a place which was spoilt by a load of foreigners.

Hugely multicultural, and getting more so.

We are called ‘vibrant’. A word I detest, and I don’t know how it can apply to my town. I’d prefer to call it ‘crowded’.

Re: How multicultural is where you live?

Many many cultures, colours and types of people here, it's lovely we get to celebrate so many traditional days with them all. The hari krishna temple is I'm told biggest congregation in England. mosques first one in England. Pakistanis, Indians, Eastern europeans, Huge Australian and South African contingents.

Only people cause any problem are somali men sadly they let everyone else down and make multiculturalism feel uncomfortable for us all.
