I read the book when it came out and wasn't too impressed, too many characters and the book too long. Watched it out of interest and because there was such a good cast. Not too impressed, however, stuck with it and the second episode was a lot better, so will have to watch the last one on Sunday.Did record the Indian thing and watched the first episode, couldn't work out what on earth was happening. Obviously a lot of money was spent on sets and costumes etc, but I can't see myself watching it again unless I am desperate.

I didn't watch A Casual Vacancy as we're watching Indian Summers (which I think is good!) but a friend was saying that she found it quite disturbing which made me think that it was possibly quite well acted.Last episode of my favourite piece of rubbish telly tonight Death in Paradise!

However, it's a complicated plot which is OK when you're reading as you can stop to think or go back a page. Maybe it's too complicated for turning into a TV series. I don't remember the people being such caricatures in the book; it was more subtle.
And they changed the ending!!!!
(But I did think the role of Krystal was acted superbly.)

It was a great example of English writing/Tv where the mix of humour and seriousness take you on a rollarcoaster ride of ups and downs..
