Re: oops No top gear (the Jeremy Clarksons debate)

I saw in todays paper James May says about his mate getting sacked - "It's a tragedy."
No it's not!
Someone getting killed, or having their property blown up, or being in a car crash etc is a 'tragedy'. Not some arrogant bully getting the sack isn't.

Having a relative on a plane that is deliberately flown into a mountain is a tragedy, not an overpaid oaf finally getting the sack, or a pop star throwing his dummy out of the pram.

I was disgusted when I heard the sacking called 'a tragedy' pathetic lot of schoolboys with an exaggerated sense of their own importance all of them

Re: oops No top gear (the Jeremy Clarksons debate)

Well, I liked top gear and I liked the top gear team. I don't know if I would have liked them in real life, but I didn't know them so I can't say.
However, I liked the show and I liked the stunts and I liked their non-PC attitude. I regarded them as actors in a slapstick motor show - which was incidentally, one of the most popular worldwide.

How many of you do actually know them?

I don't think we need to and personally I would be disgusted if I knew people like him. We mix with nicer people altogether.

He has done this. Thank goodness.
But I do agree a very wrong use of the word 'tragedy', unfortunate yes, tragic no.
