Crohns disease

Anyone on here suffer from it? I saw the specialist today and he seems to think I have it. I'm having a colonoscopy Tuesday (that was amazingly quick) what fun, better get me trainers on! As there is a history of bowel cancer in our family, he wants to make sure (sadist)
If anyone has it can you tell me what treatment, diet etc. do you have to follow?

Oooooooohhhhhhh Twiz darlin' that doesn't sound nice. I had an endoscopy a few years ago, - a saying from the television series "Dad's Army" from the late, great Clive Dunn, would seem to be somewhat apt - "they don't like it up 'em".

Re: Crohns disease

I had a very close friend who had Crohn's but she also had MS so it was difficult to know what was attributed to which. I know her diet was altered quite a lot and no drinking unfiltered tap water. She coped really well and only had problems on her naughty days when she would eat something she knew she shouldn't - she reckoned it was worth it once in a while Not sure if she took any medications (I don't think she did). I'm sure they'll go through all the ins and outs with you but do your own research as well. Hope everything turns out okay.

Re: Crohns disease

Had colonoscopy today, wasn't too bad,(apart from the laxatives) just thinking how glad I was to get that over with, got home & had appointment letter for a barium follow-through!
More laxatives were included! I thought oh s***! Which was apt!
Must say I was impressed by the speed of getting these appointments. Also how brilliant the staff at the Bristol Royal Infirmary were today.

Re: Crohns disease

My husband has had a colonoscopy twice in the last five years. He said the worst part of it was the strict no fibre diet beforehand and the very strong laxative concoction you have to take. After the procedure he felt bloated and uncomfortable for a few hours as a result of trapped wind.

Re: Crohns disease

My youngest son has just been diagnosed with Crohns. He has had the endoscopy already and they have given him some tablets called Pentasa. He was very apprehensive with the endoscopy procedure and I waited for him for a few hours at the hospital. He came out sore but as mentioned also bloated and uncomfortable. He survived it and says that since he started these tablets he isn't that hungry so is watching his diet. He was eating All Bran for brekkie but stopped that as it was not doing his bowels any good in the end. I have read up you don't eat a lot of nuts, bacon, and other processed meats. Carbonated drinks are a no no and also alcohol but my son doesn't drink a lot anyway. No coffee and try to drink Soya milk not cows milk. My son says he is going to have some naughty days eating too. He said he isn't giving up living Hope you get on OK Twizzard

Re: Crohns disease

I don't eat meat anyway, not because I'm veggie, just don't like it, except bacon. All I can eat at the moment is cornflakes & porridge, so looking forwards to anything else! My sister has just told me she is having radioactive beads put into her liver, she has been battling bowel & liver cancer ( had lots of surgery & chemo) for about 5 years, this is new treatment from Australia. So you see I'm hoping that my problems turn out to be Crohn's in a weird sort of way!
