Re: Why are we afraid of writing a WILL

Are there any legally binding wills that are not extortionate cost?

Ive not made a will as I really cant afford one at £200 or thereabouts.

Re: Why are we afraid of writing a WILL

Lodging a will with a solicitor doesn't necessarily guarantee it will be the will that is adhered to.
Wait until someone claims to have found a more recent one on a computer.
Back in 2003 the authenticity of computer wills versus one drawn up by a solicitor and lodged in an office was still a grey area, but the computer will was the most recent so took priority.
Even the solicitors didn't know it existed and slung the one they had into the bin.

Yes Go to WH Smith or Rymans and buy a will form about £10 online

It is perfectly legal

But if your will is complicated best to consult a solicitor .

That's the thing about properly prepared wills - they cover the "what ifs".

Some here seem to have implied that the OP might have been drumming up business.
Who cares, nobody is forced to use him even if that were the case ?
Nevertheless, his message is sound !
Pummy, it is on my medical record that I was drawing up my will while of sound mind, so doesn't matter if the doctor pops his clogs before me. But given that he is half my age, that is unlikely!

Hi Aysa there is a scheme running for those over the age of 55 called 'Free wills Month' which runs in March and October each year details below ...
http://freewillsmonth.org.uk/ great if you are in the right area.

Free Wills Month brings together a group of well-respected charities to offer members of the public aged 55 and over the opportunity to have their simple Wills written or updated free of charge by using participating solicitors in selected locations around England, Scotland and Wales.
There is also 'Will Aid' which runs every November and costs £95 (any age I think)

Participating solicitors in most areas...

Re: Why are we afraid of writing a WILL

Hi

A simple will is easy to write.

Just get it witnessed, copy it and give it to a few people.

Mine is very simple, everything to be shared equally between my two kids.

I didn't I have no idea what happened except that they both had surviving spouses. One had told me that they were leaving money to a niece but as far as I know she never got it.
No idea who the solicitor was so I can't chase it up .

Re: Why are we afraid of writing a WILL

I have made my will and so has the OH. The forms cost a couple of £s and they were printed out and all we had to do was fill in the blank spaces, then sign in the present of witnesses, (my neighbours) and they counter signed.
Simple, easy, and cheap.

Re: Why are we afraid of writing a WILL

I have a will, it is very simple - equally dividing everything between my three children - I basically copied it out of a book I borrowed from the library I only had to make some minor modifications.

As it happened some years afterwards I showed it to a solicitor friend who said it was fine.

It makes dealing with your property after your death so much easier, even those who say they have nothing would be surprised how much they do in fact own.
