Re: Will this be the end of the Christmas Card?

I had to post two parcels to New Zealand last week. Under 2Kgs each as I thought after weighing them on digital scales. They would have gone by small parcel rate costing £25 each which was acceptable. One weighed 1.9Kg (£25) the other weighed 2.20Kg which they wanted £86 for! Apparently the BIG one would have to go by a different carrier! One with bigger muscles I guess. Needless to say I took the hugely overweight one home, separated it into two parcels. One went for £25 and the other for £10. Maybe the next time i'll do a bank transfer and the kids can buy whatever they want. Incidentally the original two parcels were packed in identical sized boxes.

I used to exchange gifts with my US friend and I'm so glad when she hinted about stopping, so I said it for her. Think we were both relieved. It was the postage cost, as much as trying to think what to buy each year.

Locally the scouts deliver cards for a few pence, this is brilliant, you buy them in a few shops in the nearest town and as long as they're addressed properly and within the local post code they deliver! Unfortunately I've a few less long distance ones to post this year, must be getting to "that" age.

I find as each year goes by I send less and less cards, doesn't seem much point if you haven"t seen people for many years . it just seems to me as you are going through the motions.

Nope no diddling. 120 second class stamps and 9 to go abroad. A second class stamp is 53p and the ones to India, Oz, NZ, Germany and Canada were a couple of pounds each.

I love my cards. Most of them have letters in them, which I reciprocate. We have lived in quite a few places in the UK, and it's lovely to keep in touch. We have also travelled a lot, in the past, and have made some lovely friends abroad. Only the rally special ones abroad will receive cards, the other will have Internet greetings.

Re: Will this be the end of the Christmas Card?

Christmas cards are a waste of paper, time, money and effort. I hand-deliver maybe 5 or 6 each year along with a present, and that suits me fine. No way would I be daft enough to post cards to people I haven't seen for years.
