Parliament - Speaker -'Total disregard for this Chamber is not acceptable'

https://www.manchestereveningnews.co...boris-18903630

13:00 Speaker criticises government over new laws announcement

Conservative MP Sir Desmond Swayne makes a point of order. He criticises the government for not making a statement in the Commons on the law changes around coronavirus due to be announced today

“What remedy is there for those of us who enthusiastically support the prime minister, but nevertheless want to restrain the government’s ability to govern by order without debate?”

Mr Speaker says he is very sympathetic with the point made. He says he accepts that decisions are being made in a fast moving situation but timings for statements are known to ministers.

“It’s really not good enough for the government to make decisions of this kind in a way that shows insufficient regard for the importance of major policy announcements being made.”

He says he has already sent a letter to the secretary of state (Matt Hancock) - “I think the total disregard for this Chamber is not acceptable” he says.
Well spoken - BJ is becoming too fond of governing by "executive order" - Trump-style .....

Right now it's getting a number of very important jobs done and done as well and as quickly as anyone else could and very much better than most, especially those on the Left.

Not so Omah !
The virus epidemic is classed as an emergency and as such has
to be dealt with in a speedy manner, or expediciously in other
words ?? unfortunately parliamentary process makes this
impossible ! Hence what happened !!
Good for Boris !!

Well, "expediciously" has meant incompetence resulting in a shambles and 66,000 excess UK deaths ..... BJ's to blame for those, then .....

Absolutely not Omah.
We wont argue about the 47K "excess" deaths you claim ??
How can you blame any one person for a global epidemic??
And as is becoming evident now the uk figures viz other countries
are beginning to look better and better?
Keep your fingers crossed !!

47k - don't make me laugh ..... :

https://www.actuaries.org.uk/system/...2020-05-26.pdf

Our analysis suggests that:

 there could have been in the range of 57,000 to 61,000 cumulative excess registered deaths in England& Wales by 25 May 2020; and
 applying the same method to the PHE figure for UK deaths suggests 62,000 to 66,000 excess registered deaths in the UK.

These calculations are sensitive to the assumed relationship between the PHE and CMI figures, particularly for the “later” period in Table 3. The calculations do not allow for deaths that may have occurred by 25 May 2020 but were not reported by then.

Data sources

The ONS provisional weekly deaths are available from:
https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulat...s/weeklyprovis
ionalfiguresondeathsregisteredinenglandandwales
The PHE figures are available from:
https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/
There were just over 66,000 deaths of care home residents in England and Wales between 2 March and 12 June this year, compared to just under 37,000 deaths last year.

There's 29,000 excess deaths to start with .....

That was then, by now it could be 75,000 .....

BJ has taken responsibility himself in PMQs:

The PM says he takes full responsibility for the handling for the coronavirus crisis, as he has from the start.

Half of those projected excess death would have been claimed by
normal flu in the coming winter anyway Omah !
so they only died about two months earlier than they would have ?
Look on the bright side, the coming flu deaths may be less now as
most of the vulnerable have all ready died!!

Re: Parliament - Speaker -'Total disregard for this Chamber is not acceptable'

The Speaker is Furious with Matt Hancock Because Lockdown Changes Were "All Over Twitter" Before Parliament Knew About Them

https://www.politicshome.com/news/ar...avirus-twitter

A furious Lindsay Hoyle has threatened to drag Matt Hancock to the Commons to answer questions every day after new lockdown restrictions were announced to the media before Parliament.

The Speaker accused the health secretary of trying to “run this chamber ragged” by not informing MPs of coronavirus policy changes first or giving them a chance to quiz ministers over them, calling on him to apologise.

In an angry diatribe against the government following PMQs, Mr Hoyle suggested Mr Hancock might face a “UQ every day” – referring to an Urgent Question, the mechanism by which MPs can request a minister comes to the House to give answers on a particular subject.

They are in the gift of the Chair to grant if he deems them appropriate, with Mr Hoyle suggesting he will start allowing one every day regardless of merit as revenge for not informing the Commons of policies first.

He has previously upbraided Boris Johnson and other Cabinet ministers for revealing new elements of the coronavirus response to press conferences and not in statements to Parliament.
Drag 'im in, Lindsay; drag 'em all* in .....

* Boris Johnson and other Cabinet ministers.
