With me, it was third time lucky and I've never been so happy or contented in my life. We've been together 20 years and it still gets better every single day.
So.... how do you tell someone to only get married for the third time?

My husbands mum is and always has been spiteful. Her husband got the brunt of it but hubs can often be spiteful too. That does rankle as I find myself liking my mother in law less and less as I hear what my husband had heard until he was in his twenties. Her favourite story is going shopping with her husband one Saturday afternoon. He made the mistake of asking if she had nearly finished. She said she had and went directly to the check out.

On Sunday when poor dad went to find the meat to cook for Sunday lunch he couldn't find anything and when he asked, was told 'I didn't bother to get anything because you wanted me to hurry up.

Re: What would you say to a young you

Someone said they would offer the advice, not to get married.
I think that is unfair advice, just because you can't find happiness in a marriage, doesn't mean your children can't.
I would not give the advice, that people should get married either, but only say it is the best thing I ever done, and the next best thing was having children.
After a marriage of nearly 54 years, we are as happy and loving together, as we were when we were teenagers.
My advice to people would be, let your children find their own way in life, answer all their questions honestly, and support them in everything they do.

That's lovely Wrinkly and indeed 54 years of happiness is to be congratulated. But, what would you say to a younger less wrinkly Wrinkly?

I thought I had answered that Cate, with this sentence:--

I think I would tell myself to stop trying to please others all the time and please yourself, don't be so hard on yourself when things go wrong, it's all a learning curve.

Re: What would you say to a young you

The reason I would like to meet younger self is that I have learned the answers, I thought but I have still a long way to go before I would be able to get it right.

Have you ever heard the saying 'He/She is wise they've been here before? Maybe if you do get the chance to try out a second time you might be wiser even as a youngster
