We have hair so that we can pull it out when stressed. Personally I like to pluck out my over-long eyebrows and nose hairs when under duress as I find it very therapeutic.

I've heard that head hair is a sexual feature selected for by evolution.

I read somewhere (The Naked Ape by Desmond Morris?) that pubic and underarm hair indicates sexual maturity and enhances body odour for attracting a mate.

During sex education at school the teacher told us that pubic hair reduces friction burns during intercourse. I remember in my innocence, and as a keen physics student, wondering just how energetic sex had to be to generate enough heat to cause burns.

Hair today, gone tomorrow.

What I want to know is why pubic hair stops growing at about 2cms long , whilst facial & head hair keeps on growing.

I remember reading some Desmond Morris Griffon, never knew that about the friction and the burns.

That's a good question RJ, I haven't a clue why it is, maybe something to do with not getting any sunlight, like the hair under your arms.
