Frosty warns EU, NI protocol unsustainable !!

Lord Frost has warned Brussels that the NI protocol as it stands
is unsustainable and urges them to rethink the methods of
checking goods from UK to NI !!
It is to be hoped that he makes a better job of negotiating this than
he did with the fishing arrangements !!

Can't we reciprocate with similar checks on goods moving from the RoI into NI on the same premice - that the goods might, just might, be being smuggled over the border?

The thing is, is the single market and customs union was never designed to stop smuggling.

Neither was the border in Northern Ireland, it was a security border.

Then all the more reason for cross-border checks between the RoI and NI, surely.

It's an EU problem. They should sort it out in their territory as far as I'm concerned.

Then they can do what they like as long as its in the Republic of Ireland and not in the UK.

The UK will not put up a hard border in Ireland so its up to them what they do.

In the news yesterday - Sainsbury is having trouble with moving goods to its stores in NI because of over-zealous EU checking of documentation. There are NO Sainsbury stores in the RoI so how, other than RoI shoppers coming over the border, are Sainsbury's products ever going to be found in the Republic?
