If I'm sitting, One arm rests on the arm of the sofa and the other on the seat, or both hands holding a book.
I do use my hands when having a conversation but not excessively.

Cigarettes came in handy for that dilemma. There was always something to do with your hands if you smoked...but those will kill you so back to the drawing board.

Here in Canada .. there was an advertisement
for the yellow pages phone book .. it said lets your finger do the walking ...

We had the same ad down under. Probably a world wide thing. But I'm not sure whether they had it in Afghanistan.

Speaking with the hands is very much continental really, because the Italians can't actually talk without using their hands, and I think that's the case in many other countries. It's a cultural thing.

I once watched my wife explaining directions to someone on the phone. She was pointing while she told the person how to get to a certain address, as if the other person could see her. I couldn't stop laughing for weeks.
