Windfarm Madness

It seems windfarm operators are being paid millions to not generate electricity

Re: Windfarm Madness

This really is not news Ray, wind farms in general are a joke.

Rich land owners make small fortunes each year for renting land for these things.
If it is too windy they cannot operate.
Not enough wind they cannot operate.
Just the right amount of wind over a long period they are paid to shut them down.
They are a blight on the land and seascape.
They kill birds.

The entire system is corrupt IMO but we need more wind farms and a proper system that isn't corrupt.

Re: Windfarm Madness

I like seeing wind turbines I think they are peaceful to watch and a feat of engineering. Its a good idea to generate power from the wind and surely they dont kill loads of birds unlike the damage stored up for the future by generating nuclear power plus the stuff we dump into the sea.

As per usual anything that makes money is obviously corrupted by the few at the expense of others.

Re: Windfarm Madness

It does sound farcical. Hopefully, when the cabling is sorted along with distribution to the rest of the UK the issue of the payments should be resolved.

We need more technology to store surplus energy eg the next generation of batteries.

Slightly off topic ...
I was surprised to read in the local paper that someone stole 95 solar panels from a field .

It seems there is money to be made from alternative energy in a number of ways.

Hi

All going to waste because of a lack of planning.

All it needs is a working connection to the grid.

In Germany, when the wind farms overproduce they give the electricity free to industry, which gives a cost advantage to German factories.

Re: Windfarm Madness

Government is corrupt and highly influenced by foreign energy moguls.

They don't want us having green eco enrgy. They want to keep selling us expensive oil and fossil fuels.

So the entire industry is rigged.

That's why it is prohibitively expensive to buy your own solar panels.

That's why even if you build your own panels cheaply, the government won't let you use them, citing safety reasons and requiring people to get any home made panels professionally certified (more cost).

The government operates the "Feed In Tarriffs" schemes which simply entire unscrupulous businesses to go out and maximise eco solution usage for their own profit rather than as an eco solution for the consumer.

They'll put solar panels on your roof for free . . . but they will feed the electricty generated back into the grid for the FIT payments rather than let you have it. Ask them to install free panels and a battery system along with it (so you can store the free energy by day and use it at night) and those companies will laugh at you.

Personally I don't mind windfarms, their large size and scale appeals to me but they need to be cost effective. Using electricity to power them when there's no wind is ridiculous.

I think the turbines are majestic. The energy is free.
The constraint is that it is an on availability source. We have an on expectation demand. Flick that switch and you expect the light to come on.

What we need is grid scale storage,

Re: Windfarm Madness

These things are huge .
Must take a lot of energy to make them
I wonder how long it takes for them to pay for themselves.
