Non Assembled

Why is it so many so many articles now sold that need assembling as well as furniture.

Even storage boxes all sizes come in flat packs.

They take ages to assemble with all fiddly bits that sometimes do not fit and the sides do leave gaps as well.

They are not that much cheaper either.

Re: Non Assembled

I hate flat packs too. Was going to order a two chair garden set with a table that fits in the middle, joining both, then I read it was a flat pack, no way.

Re: Non Assembled

It defeats the whole object if you have to get a Carpenter to assemble furniture that has thousands of screws many of which do not fit. and some missing too.

Muddy, I said it in a thread, not long ago that l would like one. Anyway, l was at my local Garden Centre last week and the VegTrug on display had a banner on it saying, ‘Sale’.

I found the manager and l asked if the banner applied to the VegTrug, if so how much was it? He said, he wouldn’t sell it to me as one of the legs was damaged.
He then said, ‘l will look out the back to see if we have any more. He came back with one in a tatty cardboard box. The VegTrug inside, was perfect.

I said, ‘How much?’ He said, they are normally almost £200 but what about £100?’
I didn’t haggle, as l have wanted one for ages and l have had some great bargains from there before.
Getting it home and out of the car was interesting!

I just need to put it together!

Yes, it's money. And saving space. And transportation.
Imagine a warehouse full of fully assembled furniture. It would be a huge building and not cost effective at all.
Same with the stores who need to stock it all - where would they put it?
Unfortunately, if you want ready made furniture you need to get it made specially...at a cost.

There are still Furnitures Stores who sell well made ready assembled furniture in every Town.
They have lots of furniture on display, and when you order it you usually have to wait a few weeks as they then place the order with the Manufacturer
You are usually required to leave a deposit as well
The stock in the shop is sold in the sales to make way for new models.

Flat pack furniture does not last long. Some of it looks as though it is made from Orange Boxes.

I have G Plan furniture 40 years old and still in good condition.

It is a nuisance, fortunately my husband is good at assembling things, a job at which I would be hopeless.
