At Long Last!

So pleased that my Yucca plant which we transferred from my brother's garden when he moved house has, after seven long years, produced a flower!! They had had the plant for 5 years and never manged to get a bloom either so really pleased. It must really like the position it is in but took a long time to tell us! I believe they come out as lovely white bell shaped flowers. Can't wait..

Re: At Long Last!

We had to move ours about 12 years ago when we blocked paved in front of the house, we thought it was never going to flower again and my husband threatened to dig it up, then last year it had its first flower spike, and earlier this week we noticed that it has got another flower spike coming. When it was in the front garden it would flower at any time of the year. we have even had it flowering for Christmas.

Well done SG you must be doing something right ..
I have just looked at the flowers, they are beautiful.
I hope they can cope with cold nights which are forecast this week.

My Yucca (Spanish Dagger) also took five years to flower for the first time last year. It flowered late in the year too. Looks like its about to bloom again which is even later than last time but I think the first frost due any time now will blacken the flowers.

Re: At Long Last!

After a campaign here the council have finally dug up and destroyed the yukkas they have been bane of most of our lives for about 27 years. Not the best plant for just next to a front door.
