The "other lot" already ARE armed with firearms in the major cities and big towns. In any case our police must, or rather should always have superior fire power.
You might, already, be seeing what looks like machine guns, in the Cities.
Imagine where all those bullets might ricochet to?
I'm still convinced that illegal carrying should result in an immediate 10 year prison sentence, no ifs, no buts, no court case.

In combination with capital punishment for murder and 15 years hard labour for illegal possession of firearms.
