Toast always falling butter side down is a misnomer .The common effect is caused by the height the toast falls from. Viz, toast from waist height only has enough time to rotate by half a turn. Drop it from one foot higher and itwill complete one rotation and fall butter side up

I beg to differ Robert. Elvis, now 81, is a barman in Harry Maguire's bar and lounge/post office/greengrocers in Ballyache, County Kerry, as a matter of fact he served me and the wife while on holiday there only last year, honest to God you wouldn't know him, he's lost all that flab, not a pick on him, thin as a stick and a big red face on him, must be all that fresh air he's gettin' in Kerry, he was kind enough to give us a few bars of "It's now or never", and I'm glad to report that he never lost the touch, old and all as he is now.I tried the toast test and it works just fine, thanks for the tip.
