Joseph Medicine Crow joined the US Army in 1943, and became a scout in the 103rd Infantry Division in World War II. Whenever he went into battle, he wore his war paint beneath his uniform and a sacred eagle feather under his helmet.He made a midnight raid to steal the horses from a battalion of German officers. They were about to attack a barn when he asked his squad leader if he could go in first and steal horses as a diversion.
