This is in Iranian Kurdistan. These types of villages can be found across Iraqi and Iranian Kurdistan. These villages are unique in the sense that the roof of each house also serves as a street/path. Notice the un-mortared walls; this gives it an even more authentic/raw look.

These villages are usually build against steep mountains. Some villages are located on extremely high altitudes; 3,000+ meters. This region, the heartland of the Zagros Mountains, has always been a retreat for the Kurds. For the past 5,000 years, no enemy has been able to conquer this region or subdue its inhabitants; the Kurds.
