You might not - each key individually lights up giving a very even glow - it definitively makes typing easier for me. I like the force-touch on the trackpad, too, which brings up the dictionary and wonder how I managed before.

Wow you all have posh laptops. These days I always buy the cheapest model that does what I want. Have had too many posh ones crash and burn.
