From what I hear, the American police are as hard as nails.On the other hand, British police - and our courts - are as soft as s***.
Wouldn't it be nice to have a happy medium? I'm trying to think of a good example and would probably come up with a European police force. Unfortunately, I have had no direct experience of any European police forces.
Perhaps someone who has might suggest a good example of one which has got things just right.

All the usual suspects are up in arms when a criminal is killed, even accidentally.
When a copper is killed, especially intentionally ... silence.
