Re: A proposed new royal yacht, I wonder where it will be built?

Further news this morning about the successor to the Royal Yacht Britannia, it is mentioned that this will be built in the UK too:

"A new national flagship is to be commissioned by the government in a bid to boost British trade and industry globally, the prime minister has said.

The vessel will be the successor to the Royal Yacht Britannia, which was retired in 1997.

The government plans to build the ship in the UK, at a reported cost of £200m."

I'm afraid that this, like that HS2 we hear little about these days, is going to be yet another waste of money.
I believe that the public's view is that there is no need or demand for either.

As I said, I have heard nothing since about HS2. Could this mean that, after throwing away many £millions thus far, it has finally been ditched?

I wonder how many £millions will now be wasted on the Royal Yacht bright idea before that, too, is ditched.

No, we don't hear much about HS2 although there's plenty of information online, see links below. In fact 27 May 2021 saw publication of various expenses to do with HS2 Ltd's senior officials, that could be worth checking out on the link below at the end of this post!

This link to a BBC new item from 2013 is interesting as it gives 12 arguments for and against HS2:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-24159571

As for the cost of the proposed Royal Yacht, we managed without one since 1997 when the last one was withdrawn from service. If it was that essential and important why wasn't another one built when the last one was withdrawn 35 years' ago? Then at least there was more money around.

Looking around at the state of this country by way of infrastructure etc., it might be a good idea to get all that sorted out to the satisfactory standards we used to have before embarking on anything else. Projects like HS2 and the proposed Royal Yacht will eat up £millions we can ill-afford, due to what's happened with continuing, escalating costs of the coronavirus pandemic.

Well the Birmingham section of HS2 is going full speed aheadmJBR!
The tunneling machine has been installed and is busing boring
through the Chiltern hills at the moment, and the Birmingham
Interchange and extension have allready been started !!
Seems they are spending the money quickly before Boris changes
his mind again , or gets fired ??
The queen has stated that the request for a yacht did'nt come
from Buckingham palace,so it must be Boris going off at half
half cock again ?? He thinks he can do anything now with the huge
majority we gave him ??

It's a shame that so much money is being spent on something that is likely never to replay itself as so few will use it. Spending that money on improving the railways in the north of England would have been far more sensible.

Yes, therein lies the problem. If we had a half-decent opposition to hold the government to order, I'm sure Boris would think twice before doing silly things like these.

HS2 became unnecessary after BREXIT - unless it can be used as part of the much needed cleansing of our towns and cities.

This damn fool boat idea though, that's just like crime in a multistorey car park -- wrong on every every level.

So it seems Swimmy is right ?
This is all prompted by Boris with the assistance of a few other
mad Tories ??
Nobody has mentioned the queen being involved in this yet ,
Shouldn't she at least express her desire for such a yacht ???
On the global Britain issue, haven't we just despatched a bloody
great air craft carrier and accompanying flotilla on a mission to
do just this ??
IGTF!!
Donkeyman! 👎🤔🤔👎

Maybe she won't still be around, by the time it is built, DM!

To be honest, I can't see it making a great deal of difference in the South China Sea.
It only carries 8 jet fighters!

Each American a/c carrier has about 80 aircraft, plus the land-based ones in places like the Philippines, Guam, etc.
