I've never used one. When I was working there was always a bank either on the ground floor or in the block, so I could always get cash on my lunch hour if needed; now that I'm retired my bank is in the same block as the market, pharmacy, liquor store, etc. where I am on almost a daily basis. So have never felt the need to get an ATM card. I rarely use cash anyway, put everything on a credit card that I pay off in full monthly.

A credit card's fine as long as the shop will take it, I know some who don't, . . in fact most open air markets or trade fairs won't take them therefore it's handy to get cash from an ATM.

I have both types of cards but use the debit one most.

Other than the Flea Market, I'd say 98% of the places I normally shop do take credit cards. Very convenient.
