Talk about anything....

Talk...its good to talk....
subject can be random or serious motivated..
start off....How are your Nerves...
we have all been subject to harsh times...How has it impacted on you...apart from the obvious issues.

For me it has made me feel imprisoned...cannot get close to people..stopped looking at people in the shops..avoiding eye contact...speak with neighbours from a far..really not communicating with anybody outside of my home..except phone calls and messenger messages..and a life saver this forum ....but tomorrow is another day..new hobby maybe...

Re: Talk about anything....

Before I share my thoughts, I’d like to start off by saying that I’m an introvert who doesn’t much like close contact with others so to be brutally honest while I hated the reason, I welcomed the social distancing. Being that close to people wasn’t comfortable so I appreciate some aspects of this. I’m not going to lie.

This opinion of course is how I feel personally and is about my own well being. On a global level, I don’t think this world will ever be the same. Humans are terrific in conquering and dividing. Now we’ve found yet another reason to conquer and divide . Now it will be a division between the vaccinated and the unvaccinated. There will be the haves and have nots. The have nots won’t be able to travel any great distance to visit family or friends, go on cruise ships, go to sports events, or musical concerts etc due to not being vaccinated. This will indeed cause chaos. Since viruses mutate, there will constantly be new strains of viruses emerging. Do we keep on taking new vaccines for life?

For myself, it’s given me a justifiable excuse not to socialize that’s completely understood and socially acceptable. In fact, it’s viewed as admirable whereas before it was viewed as freaky behaviour. I know we all go through stages of not being accepted , but for myself, it feels like a life theme.

On a positive note, it’s made me really slow down and make the most of each day. It’s made me more grateful for life’s simple joys and appreciate each and every moment that passes by. ( or try to ) It’s made me truly realize just how fragile and vulnerable we really are.

I, too, have enjoyed the solitude, to be honest. I saw people in my bubble, of course and simply video-called the rest of my family and friends. I have zero interest in my neighbours so I had no problems with not interacting with them,

I have enjoyed being quiet and not chatting with all and sundry as well. I think this will continue for a while yet!

It seems to have transferred onto here though So that makes the above statement null and void!

Re: Talk about anything....

When I'm out and about I'll strike up conversations with perfect strangers. Despite all the lockdown nonsense nothing much has changed in our cul-de-sac, it's probably brought us closer together with our neighbours if anything, we continue to stand at each others gates and have a nag, and sons, daughters and other family members who live somewhere else have freely visited their parents in the street. Nobody raises an eyebrow. We even had a street party during lockdown on one of the residents special occasions. I suppose we are just one big bubble....

Re: Talk about anything....

I don't mind not being able to socialise, because I'm really quite an insular person. Outside of the family, that is. The thing that was hardest for me was during the lockdowns when I was unable to hug my children and grandchildren. That was really, really tough. I was lucky enough to see them because they all live very close, so we could visit and talk from a few metres in their front gardens. But somehow, seeing the little ones so close and not being able to hug was almost worse than not seeing them at all.

I shall never forget the day we were allowed to form bubbles. We formed one with our daughter, a single parent, and my granddaughter leaped at me, straight into my arms for what she always calls a 'pickup cuddle'. She clung so tightly, I thought she'd never let go. Which was fine by me

And yes, it's been rather nice just staying at home, not having any visitors, doing the things I like doing most like sewing, baking etc. It's been calming, relaxing.

I wonder if we'll ever return to the pre-Covid normality? I don't think it'll be in my lifetime.

Re: Talk about anything....

Being at a disadvantage, because of my lack of speaking the language of the Country I live in.. it has changed me dramatically.
My daughter says you know what your like you just have to give people a chance..
Well I have gone out of my way to speak with people, let them notice me as a friendly British person.
I go well out of my way to help assist the people around me, and really where ever I go.
I am so much happier for all of that..
I also am mostly at home, as a norm, with my Husband who is quite deaf and likely I will kill him if he does not get his hearing sorted..

Re: Talk about anything....

The main thing I don't miss at all is going into the office and commuting. I get a lot more done working from home than I ever did wasting time in endless meetings in person. People just waffle on about their own hobbyhorse in a meeting. At least online you can switch the sound and camera off and get on with some actual work. Plus that commute - what a waste of so much time and energy. I suppose people who live in a shoebox will be happy to go back to a nice shiny office, but I love having the garden and pets and sound of birdsong or classic FM in my working day.

Socially I didn't miss people just dropping in to visit. It seems such a hassle now and it has taken me some time to not feel invaded. Making the effort to entertain just feels draining. Plus cooking a big meal for family is a pain too. Feels like Christmas every time even though it used to seem so simple.
