Care

Is anyone watching this on BBC1? It's starring Alison Steadman and Sheridan Smith. Sheridan plays a daughter whose life is turned upside down when her Mother (Alison) has a stroke.

This is really powerful stuff. I can see myself in tears before the middle.

Re: Care

Looks incredible...and I do admire them both for their acting skills and for the courage in tackling such a complex subject...but sorry can't face it.

Same here Ruthio. I like Jimmy McGovern's work a lot and the programme has some of his regular actors, but the subject matter as the lady descends into dementia is too close to home for me. I've been through that twice with my parents and don't need reminding.

Re: Care

Watched this at my friends house when I returned her Westie!

It was grim - but it highlighted the plight of both patient and their families. Mary (the mother) didn't have dementia until after her stroke and to watch her frustration with the simplest of things was heartbreaking. Alison Steadman deserves an award for this - she was superb

Jimmy McGovern tells it like it is - and doesn't pull his punches.

Well done BBC - an excellent drama - proves you can still do it when you try!

Excellent drama but sadly all too true for many people. I'm not a fan of sheridan but she played a blinder in this one. Alison played it fabulously as usual.

I have never heard of Sheridan before this, Julie, was she one of the sisters? They roll the credits up too fast read.

Yes the one with the kids and drop beat dad. In real life she's a little too flaky for me, has dropped out of many productions for various reasons. Played Cilla Black in a drama really well a few years ago https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0809956/

Re: Care

I watched it and despite being very tired I couldn't switch it off till the end.
At the beginning it was lovely to see Mary with her grandchildren, in the chippy...... but it was terrifying to see the change in her after just a few minutes.
A very well written drama, with some excellent acting.
