Help

My SIL gave us an old table [very nice it is too] as is moving and hasn"t room for it .
The problem I have, is that I have tried to polish it up but can"t seem to get a shine !
Any tips/hints .
Thanks x

Wood, but what type don"t know , maybe oak, or mahogany as it is about a hundred years old . It belonged to her Mother.
I don"t think it has been stained . Possibly waxed over the years ?

Re: Help

Apricot darlin' - you say you can't get a shine - have you tried waxing it ??? If so, and that doesn't help, given the age of the table, you might need to have it treated professionally - they will strip the old wax/polish and reapply frest coat(s).

Re: Help

French polish is the answer.
Although I would rub it all down and then apply Chinese laquer, it only needs a buff then.

Yes that works. Put a mask on because of the fumes, you will be using a lot.
Cider vinegar is better, it is cheap too.

Hi

Liberon Wax and Polish Remover and very fine wire wool.

No need for the professionals, even I can do it.

Re: Help

Agree with others you need to get the years of wax and dirt off before treating it to a nice new wax finish.

Could you possibly take a picture of it?
I’m a woodworker and could definitely help you if I knew the type of wood and condition of it and I can’t do that without a picture.
