Re: New Tomb in Egypt.
Isn't it incredible! The first thing that popped out to me was the Egyptian ble.
How much I love that color - renamed cerulean by the Roman - a pigment that the Egyptians learned how to make synthetically using sand, copper, lime, and calcium carbonate heated to very high temperatures (as I recall, around 1,000C) for several hours. The Romans went berserk when they learned that blue in the form of Lapis Lazuli didn't have to be imported from Afghanistan...but soon afterwards, perhaps because it was difficult to manage the firing process, the Egyptian Blue was lost until the Renaissance.
The blue represented the Nile and heaven, creation, fertility and the afterlife which is why it's not surprising to find it in the tomb of a high priest.
And what of the hieroglyphs? I can't wait for an interpretation!
I'm with you Swimfeeders, this is my kind of news.
