Re: Coronavirus: Author Neil Gaiman's 11,000-mile lockdown trip to Scottish isle

Following his chat with Police Scotland officers, Gaiman accepted that he should have stayed in New Zealand and, after facing a barrage of criticism, has been forced to issue an apology:

https://news.stv.tv/highlands-island...was-stupid?top

"I made a mistake. Don’t do what I did. Don’t come to the Highlands and Islands unless you have to.

“I want to apologise to everyone on the island for creating such a fuss.

“I also want to thank and apologise to the local police, who had better things to do than check up on me.

“I’m sure I’ve done sillier things in my life, but this is the most foolish thing I’ve done in quite a while.”
In his apology, Gaiman also said that he "“panicked, was more than a little overwhelmed and stuck in New Zealand” so he took on the UK Government advice of returning to his Scots home immediately - but only several weeks after strict lockdown restrictions were issued by the UK and Scottish governments.

I remain unconvinced of his sincerity .....

Even if he wasn't speaking to his wife, surely, as a "celebrity", he has a management/legal team that he can consult .....

I would like to think that Gaiman's thoroughly ashamed of his selfish, inconsiderate action but I suspect that he's one of the ultra-rich breed who doesn't give a toss ..... [/QUOTE]

Hence his entry into your tosser list Omah.
I like the sound of it.

Gaiman may have been "famous" before his ill-conceived trip but now he's "notorious" .....

The house that Gaiman is living in has been described as a "holiday home" but Gaiman says "It's my primary residence. I'm a UK taxpayer and I'm on the voting rolls here. And I'm, obviously, staying put."

Internet sources beg to differ:

https://www.neilgaiman.com/About_Neil/Biography

Neil Gaiman was born in Hampshire, UK, and now lives in the United States near Minneapolis.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neil_Gaiman#Personal_life

Gaiman has lived near Menomonie, Wisconsin, since 1992. Gaiman moved there to be close to the family of his then-wife, Mary McGrath, with whom he has three children. As of 2013, Gaiman also resides in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In 2014, he took up a five-year appointment as professor in the arts at Bard College, in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York.

Mr Gaiman - whose main family home is in Woodstock in the USA - has owned the house on Skye for more than 10 years.

Perhaps Gaiman is peripatetic and pays tax nowhere - the Scottish authorities should check out his residency claim.
