Re: Post your daily exercise routine

LQ, the only better thing that going out to exercise is when you conquer all the reasons you are tempted not to. Nicely done!

Roxy, those float boards are fantastic! Here, we do yoga on the on stand-up paddle boards (SUPs), and though it is a LOT harder than it looks, if you try with a group of people who are also learning, it's great fun with everyone flailing and falling off together. It's super good for the core and legs. Before you know it, the workout is over. Let us know if you all get those boards and how you do with them .

Floydy, I am to going to be wordy except to say that I agree with everything OGF has said. I wear New Balance exclusively because I find them supportive for aging feet and joints. They are expensive, but worth it. Also, get fitted by someone who knows shoes and can check your running style (pronation, over-pronation, neutral) and other aspects of your feet like width, arch height, etc.

OGF, Congratulations! I am proud you! I know this year brought plenty of challenges and you surmounted each one.

Thanks Surfermom, I always seem to be saying thank you, to you and Floydy these days.....You two are part of a very diminishing fan club these days.....

However, I produced a very comfortable five miles this morning and recovery was swift, which was just as well really because I had to accompany Mrs Fox to the Hospital for an appointment to discuss the possibility for her to have a knee replacement.....The news was good though, and after several tests and also several hours (it's a good job there is a decent cafe' in the hospital) it was decided that the pain in her knee was not the result of a failing joint........You guessed it.......she was chuffed!.....

Another five miler this morning but in the rain. It turned out to be a lot milder than yesterday, but oh so dark.... A bit slow with tired legs, but the rain was gentle and I kinda enjoyed being out.....

That's excellent progress, ST. You are on a roll. Do you have any sore muscles yet?

OGF, very good news about Mrs. OGF, but does she have a diagnosis? I hope it's something minor.

What a beautiful day on the Florida gulf coast! The day brought able skies and almost hot temperatures, with me running right through it - ash and maples finally turning amber and ochre, palms sparkling in the sun, and all the birds carrying on like it was spring. Three miles out and back, and all I want to do is surf. Too bad the waves have gone on vacation.....

Re: Post your daily exercise routine

Thanks Surfermom and Tabby, for your interest in Mrs Foxes Knees....
They've always been high on my list of interests....
Just joking....

It looks like she won't have to have a knee replacement after all.
After several long hours spent commuting from one department to another (x-rays, scans etc) the knee expert said it was 'pseudogout' where crystals of calcium are deposited into the knee joint...Ouch!

Her hip did show signs of wear and tear and could have contributed to the damage, but physio should be able to correct that problem. He did mention that hip replacement in the future might be a consideration, but not for a long while yet.

A steroid injection to her knee has resulted in a brilliant recovery and pain relief, but the specialist suggested that rather than walk long distances in the future that swimming would be an excellent method of keeping fit without over stressing her hip and knee. Cycling is also recommended, but without resistance....I'm okay thanks.....

Oh, what a terrible terrible oversight on our part not to ask . I am sure that the sacrifices you have made in the wake of her knee problems have been nothing short of heroic. I wish I had a medal or something to give you.

Seriously though, I am glad to hear that she is feeling better. It sounds like the swimming and cycling are good options. Does she wear high quality athletic shoes, OGF? You might also make sure that you fuss at each other about posture. Pain can throw one's entire alignment off and result in some nasty wear and tear.

Oh, I came back to mention that it's raining cats and dogs, so running is iffy for now.

And I was right looking forward to wearing my medal......

Mrs Fox will soon be wearing top of the range walking shoes Surfermom, at enormous expense I've bought her a pair for Christmas....So don't tell her...
Concerning her alignment, she has an appointment with a good physio in December..He's already laid hands on her before... And noticed that she was out of line, but because her muscles were so tense he was unable to realign her without some further manipulation.

Re: Post your daily exercise routine

After yesterday’s rain the morning felt quite benign, not a breath of wind and the rain had finally stopped sometime during the night, but the low pressure had left the barren fields shrouded in cloud restricting the view to just a few hundred yards, and had postponed the light that should have been one of the first signs of morning. Song birds didn’t seem to mind the late arrival of Sunday and whistled away in their hedgerow hideaways as I ran past, and the distant sound of a cockerel announced its early morning alarm.

Although there was some standing water, I had no difficulty finding dry routes round the puddles and muddy verges. With mist swirling all around me and no view to speak of, I felt more alone than usual on this little used country road far away from the nearest house or farm. I was fast approaching the tee junction that would decide the distance of this morning’s session, either six miles or eight miles. After reaching my goal of one thousand miles so far this year I had decided to just do the six, so why did I automatically take the longer eight mile route? It was then that I realised that one thousand miles had not in fact been my goal all along, it was just another waymark along the road to contentment, fulfilment and happiness.

The long awaited light of day had arrived now and feeling good with no annoyances to speak of, I upped the pace back to the village to scribble another entry into my running journal. Eight happy but slowish miles, but I don’t care, I’ll take that.....
