PPE's

It is obvious that the government are out of their debt and floundering Re: PPE provision.
They are not business men or manufactures of goods.
They need a successful business man who has the knowledge of all sources of garments World Wide, and they best quickest way of making all these PPE's and can negotiate delivery and cost as well.

This is similar to what they do daily.

You say it i obvious the government is out of its debt Azure, lm
not sure that is true??
But on a more serious note, surely the government is not responsible
for the ordering and delivering of anything for this country, we have
a cvil service to arrange all this for them?
In the case of the NHS the hospital trusts should be in charge ot
everything hospitals need and any blame should be laid at their feet?
Aother thing that comlicates getting supplies is the just in time
delivery system which seems to be prevalent nowadays, imo this
system should not apply to health issues as it does away with the
customer carrying any reserve stocks, which is why we are in the
situation we are in!!

Re: PPE's

I'm afraid that anyone blaming the government for this has no idea of logistics. This pandemic has increased global demand for these products by thousands of percent in just a matter of weeks. Britain's domestic demand has risen from just a few hundred places requiring PPE to around fifty eight thousand and so Britain, along with every other country affected, is clamouring to secure supplies from wherever in the world this kit is made. A logistical nightmare indeed, but one which has no easy answers, and in my opinion to criticise the titanic efforts being made to accomplish the nigh impossible is churlish in the extreme.

Yes, Spot on Barry.....

People would have complained just the same if tax had risen prior to this pandemic, just so millions of pieces of PPE could have been stored 'Just in case'....
The government are between a 'Rock and a Hard Place' and are doing just fine in my opinion....

Re: PPE's

Yes, of course the government are doing their best in this extremely difficult new situation.

However as stated a number of times on TV
Garment manufacturers have offered to help and produce PPE's quickly, have not had even been acknowledge.

They often consult outside help, and in this dire situation it is needed.

Re: PPE's

Reportedly (although you won't see it on the anti-government BBC), there are 80 tons of PPE equipment on its way today from Turkey. No doubt, knowing Erdogan, there will be some quid pro quo but as long as the equipment arrives and is put into service, that's of secondary importance.

Re: PPE's

Hi

We have not covered ourselves in glory in this instance.

This is partially Government, decisions made some years ago on the basis of cost and partially due to incompetence on the part of the Civil Service and the NHS.

We are all of us partially to blame for voting for a low tax economy as well

Government, the Civil Service and the NHS are still too slow in getting their act together, far too many delays.

This is not the time however for the blame game, everything needs to be focused on solving the two big problems, PPE and Testing.

We can do nothing until these key issues are resolved.

What material is used to make ppe?lf it is made of cotton why cant
it be laundered for reuse?
We used to have laundries attached to the hospital system where
all the working clothes and bed sheets etc were sterilised with
steam and then pressed and returned to the appropriate hospital!
The only thing thrown away was surgical dressings etc which were
burnt on the spot in the laundry furnace?
Why did we change this system?
I despair of human logic sometimes??
