Re: PPE's

I had some sympathy for the government's predicament to begin with (world shortage etc) but as time goes on my patients with certain Ministers is wearing thin.

The moment the situation was appraised, patterns, specifications and materials for the required garments of PPE should have been issued online for the use of anyone capable of making them even if the material used wasn't 100 perfect also there are fabrics available these days that are both repellant and washable that would serve as part of the dress .

It could have resulted in a constant supply of garments made by sewers in each area with the larger manufacturers providing backup.

We also need imagination and innovation at this time , one grandparent at my childrens school has posted a video of how to make disposable visors out of the see through document pockets and a headband.

Too much repeating the same old mantras around PPE not enough doing.

Re: PPE's

A friend of mine is making the visors using his 3D printer. But with the gowns it's the material that has not been available. It's a special material.

Re: PPE's

[QUOTE=Dodge;1892120]Even if the governments emergency PPE stockpile was at the high levels it used to be, it would still not have been sufficient for a full on pandemic lasting months. It has been stated by 'those in the know' that many of today's PPE has a shelf life due to the fact that some of the materials used to make PPE degrades over a long period of time.

Now just how is it going to appear to the public if some whistleblower said that the government is spending upwards of £20-30 million a year to replace stock piles of PPE for that 'just in case' scenario of the country facing a pandemic. Opposition party leaders and their MP's would go on the warpath, claiming the government is wasting money which could be better spent on other things because the chances of a pandemic are very slim. The media would also do the same, the purpose of shaming the government in wasting money on replenishing stocks of medical supplies for an event that is not likely to happen.

If the government kept stocks high they would be accused of wasting public money for something that was never likely to happen. If they kept stocks at a more manageable level then they would get accused of not keeping their eye on the ball. Funny how that actual scenario

As l have posted before dodge, surely the government is not directly
involved in ordering and procuring medical requirements for the
NHS? Dont they have a civil service for this, and what are the NHS
Trusts for if not for these tasks??
Politics should never have become involved in healthcare imo
And what about my point about going back to the old system of
cotton workware for nurses etc in tandem with in house laundry?
This does away with the need to throw away and constantly
reprovide the garments as at present?
This system used to work ok?
You also state that the risks of a pandemic are very small, but
they grow every year due to the excessive use of rapid transit
systems for the massess?
I think the world has a lot of rethinking to do in more ways than one!

Re: PPE's

Hi

The PPE Shortage is much worse in England than in Scotland, Wales and NI.

It is not only hospitals and care homes.

Take dentists for example, 60% NHS Dentists closed due to shortages, in England ,only two in Scotland.

Some English NHS Trusts have banned staff from Tweeting about PPE shortages.

It is disgusting that we are not looking after frontline staff.

I will repeat, this is not Rocket Science, we can do it.

I agree Annie, the whole system worldwide has evolved to make
products with a very short life span, just so that the manufacturers
can be kept busy forever producing crap that is not always
recycleable or disposable?
These modern systems do not benefit society?

Hi

Some things do not deteriorate, we have had them in stock for years.

Plastic smocks have a lifetime in excess of 100 years.

Activated Charcoal Masks in excess of 30 years, same with facemasks and goggles.

We are being lied to.

We have 300,000 full chemical and bacteriological suits in stock for the Military.

Who is going to attack us now?

These are sprayable and reusable.

The shortages are in England, not the rest of the UK.

Hi

I do mean them, we are not under threat of massive attack at the moment, we can afford to give 100,000 of them to the NHS.

They are designed to give 100% protection for 5 days.

I will repeat, we are being lied to by the system.

I will also repeat that even though I believe Boris is a Prat, this is not entirely his fault.

He was left in an impossible position by the actions of Cameron, Osborne and May.

Yes, he has made mistakes, but everyone does, and this is not his fault.

I am a Labour Supporter, but having said that, whatever his faults he has made a better job of it than Corbyn would have done.

We are in a much better place than we would have been with Corbyn and Abbot in charge.

They, like May, are impossible to deal with.
