Re: Kate Garraway

With the responsibility of being the breadwinner at the moment who can can say they would not do the same in her position. An uncertain future financially, is simple thinking ahead to provide for and support her husband and children.

Re: Kate Garraway

I think Kate is a lovely woman, I'm sure she had her reasons for doing the documentary. My heart goes out to her, Derek, the children and her family, they have had the most dreadful of years and what a bloody strong woman is she. I hope and pray Derek will recover fully in time.

I seriously doubt that people, we have never heard of, would make much money from telling their story, that is why it is better to film somebody who is already known to us.
Kate's family are suffering the same pain as all the others, so I don't understand people's resentment of any money she may make, in the hope of making the house safe for him if he can come home.
Kate is just another person who is missing her husband, not the money he brings home, but her documentary will have opened the eyes of many people, who have not gone through this.

Twink, This is not about resentment at all. It is about the plight and unfairness that many non celeb people are going through at this awful time.
How do you think they are going to make their houses safe?

Re: Kate Garraway

I didn't watch the programme but feel sad for Kate Garraway and anyone in a similar position.

I am also sad for the circumstances Derek Draper finds himself in but I am not a fan of champagne socialist so didn't really want to spend time watching him though I guess he has changed somewhat over the years.

GoFundME. Seriously, those eligible for grants to make alterations or help for respite care, would not be refused just might have to wait. Friends and neighbours usually willing to help in practical ways.

Believe me, it isn't just covid that means people have to make changes they cannot afford!
It is a sad fact that those who earn more have an easier life, but Derek was very ill ( I believe the doctor said he was the sickest man they had treated) and it is unlikely he will be earning again in the near future!

Derek and Kate may have had a good life, I wouldn't know, but I applaud her for doing what she could to help her husband survive! I wouldn't change places with her even if she earned millions, but I do think she has helped people understand that a few people have been at death's door.....it is the media that are not interested in Joe Bloggs, because his story won't make money !
Captain Tom's efforts raised much money to help people who were ill, and some friends and family of others have raised funds to help people who were sick.
Kate earned the money to help her husband by accepting an offer of work. Lets hope the families of other survivors can offer their loved ones more comfort.
Many people need additional care after illness, but the NHS only offer medical care, so much of any other care comes from the families! Who else is going to pay for it?
