Re: Coronavirus: Third wave will 'wash up on our shores', warns Johnson

Virus strains at the other side of the world are always going to come here as they do every winter with flu. Nobody can stop them, not even Boris!

Indeed ...... he's got most of the country believing that "doing his best" has saved lives, the NHS and the country .....

Fair enough, he handled the vaccination programme well and we seem to have been vaccinated more successfully than most of the rest of the world, certainly the EU countries.

On the other hand, we are still being invaded regularly by locusts, a problem that could have been stopped far more effectively by now.
Part of our country (N.I.) still appears to be under EU control to an extent, and our maritime areas are still being plundered freely by our enemies.
Maggie and Churchill would never have allowed any of that.

I know that it has only been a little over 5 months since we left the EU, at least nominally, so I'm still hoping for more.
He'd better hurry up, though, because 2024 is looming.

Yes, agreed. Credit should be given to the manufacturers, certainly the Oxford-AstraZenica people who agreed to sell theirs at cost price.

The EU's problems, of course, were of their own making.

https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/

A further 7,490 confirmed cases in the UK were announced by the government on Saturday.

That figure keeps us on 25th February .....

Deaths and admissions are increasing .....

Aye, looks like we are going backwards now. Even in Scotland here, we have an R number of 1.2-1.4. Not good at all.

Same in England:

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/the-r-va...te-for-england

Latest R and growth rate for England

Latest R range for England
1.2 to 1.4

Latest growth rate range for England
+3% to +6%
per day

An R value between 1.2 and 1.4 means that, on average, every 10 people infected will infect between 12 and 14 other people.

A growth rate of between 3% and 6% means that the number of new infections is growing by between 3% and 6% every day.

These estimates represent the transmission of COVID-19 2 to 3 weeks ago, due to the time delay between someone being infected, developing symptoms, and needing healthcare.*
So, the figures may well be worse in a couple of weeks .....
