Re: ingrowing tonail

I had one a few years ago, painful, the doc booked be in to have it removed but was on a waiting list, managed to dig it out myself and forgot about the appointment until they rang to book me in, told them I no longer needed it, and, judging by some of you, I’m glad I didn’t

Re: ingrowing tonail

Regrowth depends on how the op is done. If they just remove the nail - it will grow back. If they remove both nail and nail bed it will not.

Re: ingrowing tonail

I had my big toe nail off once because it had turned black.

I didn't feel the doctor removing it but OMG I cringed when he injected the anesthetic - the needle went under my toe nail & right down to the base. It was the worst anesthetic injection I've ever had.

Perhaps the difference between a regular M.D. and a podiatrist ????

Re: ingrowing tonail

I have seen some medical procedures in my time; things that would make most people faint, but only one thing has really made me squirm: removal of a toenail.

They insert half of a pair of forceps under the edge of the toenail, clamp the forceps and begin to turn it like removing a tin of sardines.

They use a local anaesthetic injection, of course, and the patient doesn't feel anything, but by God it made my skin crawl. It still does only thinking about it.

If you ever have it done, take my advice and make sure you look the other way.
