I'm sure you will. Getting used to the new sounds all around outside will probably take most time. When I bought this house in 1978 it was right on the edge of town and my mum couldn't understand how I could live so far out - it's a twenty minute "walk" for me to the town centre. Since then the town's expanded in all directions. Strangely enough it's still a very quiet area, the only traffic is to and from the houses as there is no through traffic

Re: Project patio stage 1

Stage 2 is now complete. I’ve taken up the rest of the planking and exposed the joist that needs raising. Going to use the car jack to lift it a bit and put stainless steel shims between it and the pillars underneath to level it off.

Once that’s done tomorrow back goes the planking.

Beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Joist levelled off and planks in place again with 5mm spacing so there’ll still be gaps between them when they swell after rain. Home straight tomorrow when I screw them down.

Re: Project patio stage 1

Job done and everything back in place. I'll have to wait a few weeks before I clean and oil the woodwork. My daughter has borrowed my high pressure cleaner and I can't do any more until she's finished with it. Anyway there's still so much pollen in the air it would have a yellow tinge if I did it now.

Ullabi, it looks really good.

Excuse my ignorance, but how do you level joists if they have bowed?
