Re: Delta variant feels more like a cold

According to the article the top three symptoms have now changed. They used to be cough, fever and loss of smell/taste. Now they are runny nose, sore throat and headache. Because the symptoms are more like a cold, people don't get tested, so are infecting others before the condition worsens and they become really ill. Of course, in many younger people, the condition may not worsen, but for others they infect, older or medically vulnerable people, it's likely to be a very different picture.

So no, it doesn't mean that the new variant is just like a common cold. Far from it.

Barring the emergence of another variant, July 19th will be the new date for lifting restrictions.

Rumours that we could find ourselves in perpetual lockdown.

The PM called July 19 a "terminus" and not a guarantee that lockdown measures will end on this date.

Well in all fairness Cinders, he can't really guarantee anything yet, can he. If he did, and it all went pear-shaped, people would never let him live it down.

Anyway, we might even have worse variants arrive yet, as well, for all anyone knows yet.

Boris is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. If he gives a date and can't stick to it he gets hammered, if he says we can't open up yet he gets hammered, if he said we could open up completely he'd still get hammered because there would be people screaming he shouldn't be opening up. I wouldn't like to be a prime minister in such times as these.

No one honestly knows what the heck to do do they. I guess its up to us all just to use our own initiative and keep ourselves as safe as possible

That's pretty much how I feel too, Queenie.

And No. I wouldn't want his job for all the tea in China.

Agree totally, but some want the return of their liberty and the worry is that people will disobey the PM, the anti lockdown protests have not worked, so civil disobedience the last option.

Feel sure there will be demonstrations on June 21st.

I wouldn't be at all surprised.
People like that are not helping anything though, are they.
Pity they haven't got anything else to do.

MPs have voted by a margin of 461 to 60 to back Boris Johnson’s plan to extend lockdown restrictions in England to 19 July.

Some real concerns that the NHS will be overwhelmed with people seriously ill with undiagnosed conditions or delayed treatment because of Covid restrictions.
