Return of milk bottles !!

Morrisons supermarkets are planning to reintroduce glass milk
bottles to their shelves to cut down on the use of plastics !!
They also cite a lifespan of up to ten years for these bottles which
can only be good !
The downsides are likely to be the collection and washing of the
empties in this throwaway age ??
Hopefully it could mean the return of the milkman too ?

Don't you wash out your empty plastic milk bottles Donks? Our council asks us to so, we do (always have in fact, nothing more off-putting than the smell of sour milk).

As for milkmen, there are a number of dairy companies around here that already deliver milk in bottles but the cost/pint is about the same as for a 2 pinter from the supermarket.

We already have the milkman. We get milk bottles on our doorstep and a few other things. Fresh orange juice is one of them.

Re: Return of milk bottles !!

We used a milkman for a couple of years a few years ago, but it wasn't economically viable for what we needed.

Will be interesting to see how Morrisons organises returned empties.

Re: Return of milk bottles !!

Im not interested in the return of the milkman.
The floats get loaded up after completing the milk round, it meant in the summer the milk is sitting on the float for anything up to 14hrs warming nicely in the heat of the summer yuck !
Often tasting off yuck .

Yes , l do rinse them out Percy, and crush them and remove the
Wrapper ? But that may be a waste of time as l have heard
everything gets bunged into the same pile at our depot?
The price you quote is pricey, so l think your local producers are
cashing in on the exclusivity factor, which should hopefully
reduce once the system is fully fully operational and the bottles
cost is recovered??
Do you use the system BTW ?
